My name is Benito and I am one of those people who are so shy that they cant make friends very easily. I met people who i wanted to become friends with since I'm shy, I never got the chance get to know them. I am Hispanic/Latino and my origin is in Michoacan, Mexico.
First Day At OMLI
So on the first day, we had a group meeting, had the rules about being in the college, and discussed our week . What i hope to learn here at OSU is to speak up and not be shy about making friends. What makes me very unique is that i have the type of body that can eat as much as i want and still have that skinny look. The motto that reflects upon me is LLL. Living Like Larry. The reason why i like that motto is because you have to challenge yourself into new things and go to the extreme every once in a while. My hobbies are playing basketball, walking around and exercising.
Second Day At OMLI
So on the second day, we had the challenge course, and yes it was very challenging. The challenge course was about going to new heights and for a lot people like me, facing your fear. Before I started the challenge course, I felt brave and a bit scared and when I saw the courses, I became more scared and lost my bravery. During the challenge course, I was very afraid because after my first course, I looked down and I got spooked and felt like falling, and then another guy came across my way and we had to do teamwork to cross each other and get to the other side. It was tricky because we had to balance on a log which was thin and round but we managed to pass each other and felt better. After the challenge course, I felt very accomplished and happy because i faced my fear about heights and the staffs were all there supporting everyone so they wont back down and it felt good being supported.
Third Day At OMLI
On our third day, we had classes with our small groups and we talked and learned about each other almost the entire day. We learned ways on how we can solve our problems step by step, setting our goals so we can reach them, and lastly our choices we will make into the future. But this camp isn't just about being serious with each other and our lives, almost at the end of the day, we play games, sports. So far we played kickball, and bowling. I really enjoyed bowling because the last time I went bowling, i didn't make much points but yesterday, i was always on the top 3 of our group. So this week is going good so far and i hope we do more exciting stuff planned ahead.
Fourth Day At OMLI (Last Day)
So today was our last full day together and the staff really made this a week to remember. So today we visited a tsunami lab where they test the force of tsunamis on little house models, and tested the energy of the waves. And after we went to a room where we extracted strawberries DNA and being able to see it. This week was pretty fun over all because i had new experiences to things I never thought i would be doing in my life as extracting DNA from fruits, learning about how tsunamis take down buildings, and I also learned that almost all the colleges have competition into getting in and the college I really want to go to is Western Oregon University because they have Criminology and i really want to study it.
Final Day At OMLI
So today was our last day together.. and I actually did not want to go home. I didn't want to go home because I felt like we were becoming a family and i felt really connected to everyone that was part in this group. On the first day when i arrived, I was talking to my friends and we said how no one would miss other people and wouldn't wait to go home because everyone was quiet and no one talked to any one new other than there friends. As the weeks progressed, people started making new friends, and there was more and more laughs the longer we stayed here and it made me think that not anyone can be an enemy unless you can really start talking to them and get to know them. And at first i kind of didn't want to stay because i only knew 2 other guys from which iv'e known for years and its really hard making friends for me because I am shy, but after today, I really want to go back and continue our adventures around the campus, whether its waking up at 6 am, trying out new foods you never ate before, running so much you can get up once you sat down, just so I can stay connected to the new friends i made and my mentors, so it was really hard to say goodbye.
